In order to qualify for bariatric surgery you must:
- Be between the ages of 15– 70.
- Have a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or greater, or a BMI of 35 or greater if you have diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure or sleep apnea, or a BMI of 30 or greater for laparoscopic gastric band surgery only, if you have type 2 diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure or sleep apnea.
- Have attempted a structured dietary weight loss program without success.
